AI Lab Lead Wanted!

Nortal is looking for an experienced leader to build and lead our new AI Lab, aimed at transforming software development practices. In this role, you will manage a skilled team focused on developing practical AI tools and methods that improve and, in some cases, revolutionize software development practices. If you have strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a proven ability to create an innovative work environment, we want you to guide our AI initiatives. 

Lead, Research & Development – AI Native Engineering  

Objective: Drive innovation in AI-powered tools and methodologies to transform software development practices of a large company and establish Nortal's AI R&D Lab from the ground up. 

Team: Lead a team focused on pioneering solutions that significantly shape the way new generation software engineering. Build and scale the AI R&D Lab, attracting new talent acquisition and operational planning.  

• Leadership: create and implement a straightforward plan for the AI Lab that fits with the company's overall goals. Get support from key stakeholders and guide your team in setting up the lab’s basic processes and resources. 
• Team Management: lead and motivate a team of AI engineers. Build an innovation and research culture. Attract and select top talent for the team 
• AI Development: oversee the creation and implementation of advanced AI tools and AI-driven methodologies to redesign the way software is created. Manage research efforts to ensure they provide real value to the business.  
• Collaboration: work closely with teams globally to make sure new tools and methodologies are used, and measurable productivity is gained. 
• Tool Development: select and develop new tools that meet our company’s needs.  
• Hands-On Research: lead practical research and prototype creation. 
• Drive Change: lead by example and help Nortal’s engineering community to change ways of working and tools that are used in our projects.   
• Stay Current: Keep track of emerging trends and incorporate them into our work processes.  

Key Qualifications:  

• Proven experience in Gen AI-based software development or similar roles.  
• Strong technical expertise in AI and software engineering.  
• Visionary mindset with a track record of driving significant change.  
• High energy and resilience to navigate challenges and resistance.  
• Ability to influence and challenge conventional thinking in the engineering community.

Background:

• Software or data engineering, solution architecture, engineering lead: proven technical background in roles that bridge software engineering and AI or data-driven strategies.  
• Work experience in professional services is an advantage.  

Salary range: 6000 - 9000 EUR gross
