Backend Engineer (Node.js)

The Role

You will join an extension team of our client – WeShop.

WeShop is a community-owned social network that combines shopping with social media, has trusted Pwrteams to lay the foundations and grow their development team in Bulgaria.

WeShop is a referral platform that offers the functionalities of social media and allows its users to shop for products from over 500 major retailers (with more added on a weekly basis) while earning shares in the company. The innovative social-commerce platform was launched in the UK in 2022 and aims to list on the Nasdaq tech-heavy index in New York and launch in the US in the first quarter of 2025.

What you'll do:

We're looking for experienced Backend Engineer to continue the work of maintaining, optimising, and adding new features to an exciting social-commerce product. You'll be part of the development team responsible for the backend systems which manage and maintain all our data and surface the APIs consumed by our mobile apps, all the batch processes integrating with external services, and the administrative web interface used by our internal teams.

You’ll be working alongside mobile application engineers and testers and with lots of opportunity to interact with the full range of professional experts involved in the planning, design and operation of our product. We particularly need skilled, experienced developers with an eye for code quality, performance and testability, and the ability to self-motivate to deliver high-quality work.

We want you to really care about the final product and to be willing to put all of your skills and effort into creating the best possible experience for our customers.

What we're looking for:

• Deep expertise in Node.js and TypeScript
• Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL
• Solid experience working in Linux environments and with Docker containers
• Hands-on knowledge of AWS services such as ECS, S3, SNS, SQS, RDS, and CloudWatch
• Familiarity with Git and Gitflow for version control
• Well-versed in architectural patterns and modern coding standards
• Skilled at solving complex problems with attention to the broader system impact
• Committed to writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code without over-engineering
• Effective communicator, both written and verbal
• Able to estimate effort accurately and meet deadlines
• Capable of prioritizing tasks based on shifting business goals
• Open and consistent in collaborating with team members and stakeholders
• Experienced in code reviews and Agile/Scrum development practices

• Frontend (React) experience
• ElasticSearch experience
• DevOps/system administration experience
• A public git of personal Node.js projects that can be shared with us
