The Role

 

You will join an extension team (Sun Mobile) of our client - News UK.

Sun Mobile is part of a thriving engineering community in Technology who design, develop and operate all of News UK's customer-facing products and platforms. Our team creates and supports the digital platform for The Sun’s mobile application which delivers The Sun experience via iOS and Android to complement the web. Our agile team is highly collaborative, working closely with our product and business partners to deliver value to our customers. We are cross-functional, autonomous engineers that are empowered to design, write, test, deploy and support their code.

 

As an Automation QA Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our software products. You’ll interact closely with product owners and stakeholders to understand requirements, ensuring that the delivered solutions are fit for purpose and best-in-class. Reporting to the Principal QA Engineer, you'll support the implementation of our testing strategies and processes. You'll also manage and oversee release processes, ensuring smooth and timely delivery of software updates. You’ll collaborate effectively with engineering teams based in London and Sofia, actively contributing to the ongoing improvement of our QA practices.

Responsibilities

What you'll do:

  • You're a QA engineer dedicated to ensuring mobile application quality, reliability, and performance through meticulous testing
  • You understand agile methodologies and actively contribute to collaborative testing and development
  • You lead by example, championing best QA practices and encouraging continuous improvement within your team
  • You’re passionate about QA and always seek opportunities to enhance your testing skills and knowledge
  • You conduct thorough reviews of test cases and automation scripts to maintain the highest quality standards
  • You have strong experience with BDD, appreciate the role of DevOps in QA efficiency, and understand the importance of integrating quality metrics throughout development

Qualifications

What we're looking for:

  • Previous commercial experience in QA automation and tooling (ideally 2-3 years)
  • A thorough understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) within agile development teams
  • Good knowledge of either native mobile testing (XCUITest, Espresso) or JavaScript/TypeScript and modern testing frameworks (Cypress, Playwright, or WebDriverIO with Appium)
  • Experience with API testing and understanding of testing pyramids and best practices
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and version control (Git)
  • Bonus points: Experience with Appium, WebDriverIO, or any mobile testing frameworks
  • Nice to have: Knowledge of cloud testing platforms (BrowserStack) or visual testing frameworks (e.g., BackstopJS, Applitools, Percy)
  • Strong willingness to learn new technologies and expand into mobile automation
  • Good communication skills and collaborative mindset
  • We love knowledge sharing, so we would admire your strong presentation skills to internal teams as well as external Meetups, representing the QA work at News UK.
  • ISTQB Certification or similar qualifications (nice to have but not essential)
