JavaScript/TypeScript Backend Engineer

The Team & The Role:

You will join an extension team (Video Engineering) of our client - News UK.

The Team:

Our Video Engineering team is a vital part of the thriving engineering community in Technology at News UK. We design, develop, and operate News UK's video products and platforms. Our mission is to design and develop the back-end infrastructure and cloud-native services that underpin News UK’s video platforms and products to develop the News product of the future .

Your Role:

As a Software Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team that is driving the future of media technology. You will report to the Principal Engineer in Video and Publishing while collaborating with a talented group of engineers. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about writing amazing code and constantly improving software architecture.

What you'll do:

• Develop and maintain News UK's commercial products and platforms.
• Implement new technologies and enhancements to drive strategic goals.
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code following DRY principles.
• Champion Test Driven Development (TDD) and pair programming.
• Work in an Agile/Kanban environment to solve complex problems.
• Collaborate with team members and other departments to deliver high-quality solutions.

What we're looking for:

• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Strong experience with AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Strong experience with Terraform for cloud infrastructure automation.
• Experience with frontend frameworks such as React.
• Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest and Cypress/Playwright.
• Passion for solving complex problems and improving software architecture.
• Team player with excellent collaboration skills.
