Senior Android Engineer

The Role:

You will join an extension team of our client – WeShop.

WeShop is a community-owned shopping platform with a social twist. People shop through WeShop from 500+ major online retailers (and new ones are added regularly), while also sharing finds, making recommendations and discovering products through the community. What makes it different is ShareBack® - a reward model where purchases and activity can turn into real shares in the company, so users can become co-owners, not just customers.

We're looking for a Senior Android Engineer to continue the work of maintaining, optimising, and adding new features to an exciting social-commerce mobile application. You'll be an active part of a friendly team of engineers, working alongside backend engineers and testers and with lots of opportunity to interact with the full range of professional experts involved in the planning, design and operation of our product.

What you'll do:

We particularly need skilled, experienced developers with an eye for code quality, performance and testability. But we also want you to really care about the final product and to be willing to put all of your skills and effort into creating the perfect experience for all our customers with an Android device.

What we're looking for:

• Expert-level experience in native Android application development and its best practices
• Deep knowledge of the latest Kotlin versions and the best use cases of the language
• Experience with Jetpack Compose and Android Views
• Experience with reactive programming (RxJava, RxKotlin)
• Knowledge of Gradle build system
• Expertise in the Android ecosystem (Android Studio, SDK, Firebase App Distribution, Google Play production and internal tester lanes, etc.)
• Knowledge of architectural patterns
• Love for quality and performance, and the ability to think from a user's perspective
• Capability to estimate work and commit to deadlines as necessary
• Capability to process and prioritise tasks depending on business needs
• Willingness to constantly and openly communicate within the team and with the wider business
• Previous experience with code reviews and Agile/Scrum development methodologies

Brownie points:

• Previous experience with Realm Database
• Previous experience with GitHub Actions and capability to work with CI
• Knowledge of Jetpack + AndroidX
• A public git of personal Android projects that can be shared with us
• Some published applications on the Google Play Store
