Senior Back-End Engineer (Python)

You will join an extension team of our client – LBR (Law Business Research) an independent publisher, helping the world’s best lawyers become even better.

Headquartered in London and DC (supported by an international editorial team) we’re able to serve a significant portion of the global law market with news, analysis and research. We have over 2,500 institutional clients from more than 100 countries; many of our products have become the primary daily resource on industry intelligence.

We're seeking a Senior Python Engineer to design and build scalable back -end systems and RESTful APIs with PostgreSQL databases. You'll leverage AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot or similar) to accelerate development while maintaining code
quality and security standards.

What you'll do:

• Design and implement REST APIs and backend services in Python
• Architect solutions for scalability, performance, and security
• Work with PostgreSQL databases, including schema design and optimization
• Utilize AI coding tools to enhance productivity and code quality
• Collaborate with team members to integrate solutions into existing systems
  
• Communicate technical decisions and trade -offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholder

What we're looking for:

• Strong proficiency in Python and REST API development
  
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL (schema design, queries, performance tuning)
  
• Understanding of system architecture principles and scalability patterns
  
• Knowledge of security best practices (authentication, authorization, data protection)
  
• Experience with AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar tools)
  
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  
• Adaptability to work within established systems and processes
  
• Pragmatic problem -solving approach
  
• Ability to balance ideal solutions with practical constraints
  
• Willingness to learn existing systems and contribute improvements
  
• Clear documentation and knowledge sharing
  
• Collaborative mindset and openness to feedback

Brownie points:

• Experience with Java or C#
  
• Hands -on experience with ElasticSearch (indexing, queries, cluster management)
